**I use this sauce in my lasanga

Marinara Sauce

1 medium onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp olive oil
1 lb ground beef
3 1/2 c (one 1 lb, 12 oz can) Italian style tomatoes (can use crushed tomatoes if you don’t like thick textured tomatoes)
1 6oz can tomato paste
1/4 c water
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cayenne
1 tsp sugar
pinch of ground basil
1 bay leaf

Brown onion & garlic lightly in oil in sauce pan. Add meat & cook until browned. Stir w/ fork. Add remaining ingredients and simmer uncovered for 30 min. (Original recipe said 1-1/2 hours, but my mom said she only does it for the time I listed)

remove bay leaf before serving
